Researchers at the University of Michigan have made a major breakthrough in understanding the mysterious X-ray emissions from jets of gas produced by black holes. By combining observational data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and the European Space Agency’s XMM-Newton observatory, they were able to trace the X-ray emission back to regions near the event horizon of the supermassive black hole at the center of the Perseus cluster. This discovery could help scientists better understand the relationship between black holes and their surrounding environment.
