NASA’s VERITAS mission is about to take us to a place few have gone before: to explore the Venusian atmosphere. The mission, which was recently announced, is set to launch in 2023 and will be the first to measure the Venusian atmosphere from the surface up. This mission will help us to better understand the evolution of Earth’s sister planet and its climate. VERITAS will be carrying a suite of instruments to measure the chemical composition, temperature, and other characteristics of the atmosphere, and will be the first mission to provide an in-depth look at the planet’s surface characteristics. The mission will also help us to gain insight into the planet’s history and provide us with valuable data to aid in further study of Venus.
