Unveiling the Mysteries of Lithium-Carbon Dioxide Voltages
The mysteries surrounding lithium-air and lithium-carbon dioxide batteries have been a source of curiosity for scientists for years. Now, a team of researchers from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the Australian National University (ANU) have unveiled the secrets of how these batteries work by studying the voltages of their respective reactions.
Using an advanced technique called Operando X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS), the researchers were able to measure the voltage of a lithium-air battery, as well as that of a lithium-carbon dioxide battery, to unprecedented accuracy. The team found that the voltage of the lithium-air battery is much higher than previously thought, and that the voltage of the lithium-carbon dioxide battery is also higher than previously thought. This new insight into the voltages of these batteries could pave the way for further research and development of advanced battery technologies.
