Uncovering the Hidden Evolutionary History of Camel Spiders
In a recent study, researchers have uncovered the hidden evolutionary history of camel spiders, also known as solifuges. These arachnids are found in arid environments around the world, from the deserts of North Africa to the deserts of the American Southwest. Despite their wide range, they have remained largely unstudied and their evolutionary history has remained a mystery. Now, thanks to the work of researchers at the University of California, Riverside, the evolutionary history of camel spiders is finally being uncovered. By studying the genetic makeup of camel spiders, the researchers were able to identify two distinct groups of camel spiders and determine how and when they diverged from one another. The results of this study provide new insights into the history of these amazing arachnids and could lead to a better understanding of their ecology and behavior.
