Tracking C. difficile with a Cocktail of Gut Enzymes
A new study has revealed a potential cocktail of gut enzymes that could help in fighting Clostridioides difficile, a major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and colitis. This bacteria is a major contributor to the rising prevalence of antibiotic resistance, and the findings of this study could have implications for the development of new therapeutic strategies. The research team used a variety of techniques to identify the enzymes that are most effective against C. difficile, including a combination of genome sequencing and metabolomics. Their results suggest that a combination of four enzymes could be used to effectively fight the bacteria, leading to the development of a more targeted therapeutic approach.
