Unlocking the Secrets of Southern China with Molecular Analyses
Recently, scientists from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have been able to conduct molecular analyses of the fossil records of southern China. This research, published in the journal Nature Communications, provides a rare and comprehensive picture of the evolutionary history of southern China. The analyses revealed that the region has experienced three major climate shifts since the mid-Miocene, and that the region’s species have responded to climate change in different ways. This work provides a valuable reference for understanding the evolution of species in response to climate change.
