Exploring the Depths of Space: Scientists to Expand IceCube Neutrino Observatory
Scientists have recently announced a major breakthrough in the field of particle physics - the IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole will be expanded to create the even bigger IceCube-Gen2. This new and improved observatory will be 10 times larger than the current observatory, with the goal of detecting and studying elusive particles known as neutrinos. Neutrinos are incredibly difficult to detect because they pass through matter unimpeded and interact very weakly with other particles, so the larger observatory will be a major step forward in particle physics research. The IceCube-Gen2 will be the first of its kind and will be a massive undertaking, with construction set to begin in 2023 and take up to 10 years to complete.
