Exploring the Universe with the Mt. Wilson Observatory
Today marked an incredible milestone in the history of astronomy: the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Mt. Wilson Observatory! This incredible observatory, located in the San Gabriel Mountains near Los Angeles, California, has played a pivotal role in the exploration of the Universe for the past century. It was here that astronomer Edwin Hubble revolutionized our understanding of the Universe by discovering that the Milky Way was only one of many galaxies, and that the Universe was expanding. In the decades since then, Mt. Wilson has continued to be a hub of astronomical activity, allowing scientists to study and observe the stars, galaxies and other objects in the night sky. Mt. Wilson has been the site of some of the most important discoveries in modern astronomy, and today, we celebrate its 100th anniversary!
