Astronomers Witness a Ravenous Black Hole Consume Earth's Worth of Material
Today, astrophysicists have announced that a supermassive black hole located at the center of a distant galaxy has consumed the equivalent mass of Earth in a single feeding frenzy. This ravenous black hole was observed as part of a five-year-long study of the galaxy, which is located about 800 million light years away from our own Milky Way. The research team were astonished to find that the black hole was in the midst of a huge meal, as it had consumed the equivalent of one Earth’s worth of matter in a matter of days. The incredible speed of the black hole’s feeding is made even more remarkable by the fact that the matter it had so quickly consumed was spread out over a region of space that was larger than our Solar System.
