The Protective Power of Quercetin: How It May Help Combat Cellular Senescence
A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Science and Technology of China has shown that quercetin, a flavonoid found in many fruits and vegetables, can improve the health of our cells as we age. The research found that quercetin can ameliorate oxidative stress-induced senescence, which is a process where cells can no longer divide and cause aging. This is achieved by modulating the expression of antioxidant proteins, upregulating the expression of antioxidant enzymes, and decreasing ROS levels. In addition, the researchers found that quercetin was able to reduce the expression of aging markers and extend the lifespan of cells by up to 25%. The findings of this study provide insight into ways that we can potentially slow down the aging process and improve our overall health.
