Recent studies have suggested that open plan classrooms, which are becoming increasingly popular in educational establishments, may not be as beneficial for students as previously thought. Although the trendy open plan layout may seem like an attractive idea, research suggests that it could actually be having a detrimental effect on student performance.

In one study conducted at the University of Salford, researchers compared student performance in traditional classrooms and open plan classrooms. The results showed that students in the traditional classrooms achieved significantly better results than those in the open plan classrooms.

It appears that the trend of open plan classrooms may have been adopted without enough evidence to back it up. If the findings of this study are anything to go by, it might be time to reconsider the use of open plan classrooms in educational establishments.
