It’s no longer a science fiction plot line - astronomers have recently discovered ten stars that ate a Jupiter-sized planet! Using data from the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission, researchers identified the stars as they were releasing gas that had been pulled away from a planet that had been orbiting too close to the star. This is the first time astronomers have been able to witness such an event.
