Giant Moon Discovered Orbiting a Distant Exoplanet
It has been recently discovered that a giant moon is orbiting a distant planet known as HR 5183 b. This moon is estimated to be about half the size of the planet it orbits and appears to be the largest moon ever discovered outside of our own Solar System. What makes this moon so unique is that it is located in a system known as a “hot Jupiter,” where the planet is very close to its star and is likely to be tidally locked to its star, meaning that one side of the moon always faces the planet and the other side always faces the star. This is an incredible discovery and could provide insight into how planets and their moons form and evolve over time.
