In Indonesia, teaching habits can be incredibly difficult to break, especially in regards to pedagogy and curriculum. According to a recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Indonesia, teachers in Indonesia continue to rely on traditional teaching methods despite the introduction of new approaches that would engage students more effectively. The study showed that many teachers in Indonesia were hesitant to abandon old practices and instead favored the stick-and-carrot approach. This method includes a heavy reliance on rote learning and memorization to instill knowledge, rather than actively engaging students in critical thinking. Even when presented with the benefits of modern teaching methods, such as the use of technology in the classroom, many teachers in Indonesia remain hesitant to adopt them. Unfortunately, this means that students in Indonesia do not have access to the same quality of education as their peers in other countries.
