And now it appears universities are getting in on the action, with eleven universities forming a consortium to help ensure the development of the emerging fusion industry. The consortium, called the Fusion Education and Research Consortium, is a collaboration between universities in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom. The consortium will focus on developing the skills, technology, and infrastructure needed to create a viable fusion industry. The consortium also plans to work with industry partners to develop and deliver training courses and research opportunities for students and faculty, and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge among universities and industry. So far, the consortium has received funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, and is currently in the process of seeking additional sources of funding. The consortium’s goal is to provide universities with the resources and support needed to become true leaders in the fusion industry.
