New Natural Molecule Shows Promise for Increasing Sunscreen Efficacy
A groundbreaking new study has revealed that a natural molecule found in mushrooms could be the key to a more effective sunscreen than what we use today! Researchers at the University of California, Davis have discovered that the molecule, called cogin, can filter out 98% of UV radiation, compared to the 97% blocked by conventional sunscreens. This makes it an ideal ingredient to create a more powerful sunscreen that can better protect us from the sun’s harmful rays. Cogin’s ability to absorb UV rays is due to its unique molecular structure, which enables it to form a protective film on our skin that blocks out the radiation. The researchers are now looking into ways to create a commercial sunscreen product with cogin as the active ingredient.
