NASA's COMPair Balloon Mission Readies for Launch in 2023
NASA’s COMPair balloon mission is getting set to launch in August of 2023, and it’s sure to be an exciting event! COMPair (the Cosmic Ray Energetics and Mass) mission is a joint effort between NASA and the German Aerospace Center. Its purpose is to study the changes in cosmic rays over time and their correlation to climate change. The balloon will be launched from the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Palestine, Texas and it will carry a suite of instruments to measure cosmic rays and their effects on the atmosphere. The data collected will help scientists better understand how cosmic rays interact with Earth’s climate and how they could play a role in climate change. The mission is expected to last between two and three weeks, and the data collected will be invaluable. Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches!
