Nasa is on the cutting edge of technology and now they have developed a laser instrument that will help them map the Earth’s surface. This new laser instrument, called the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI), will allow scientists to create the most detailed 3D map of the Earth’s forests ever created. GEDI will measure the height of the Earth’s vegetation as well as the density of the forests and will be able to detect even the smallest changes in the forest environment. Thanks to this new tool, scientists will be able to track deforestation and other changes in the environment more precisely than ever before. This is incredibly important as we strive to better understand the effects of climate change and other environmental issues.
