NASA has just announced that the OSIRIS-Rex asteroid sampling mission has been renamed to “The Bennu mission”. This exciting mission, originally planned to launch in 2016, will explore the asteroid Bennu and collect samples from its surface. OSIRIS-Rex, now referred to as The Bennu mission, will be the first US-led mission to bring an asteroid sample back to Earth. After a seven-year journey, the spacecraft is expected to arrive at the asteroid in 2023 and return to Earth in 2023 with a sample of its surface material. Once the samples are returned to Earth, they will be studied by researchers around the world to gain more insight into the formation of our Solar System. This is an exciting opportunity that will help us better understand the origins of our universe.
