In a recent study conducted by scientists, it was discovered that Mercury, the smallest planet in our solar system, is actually shrinking! This is an exciting discovery, as up until now, scientists weren’t sure of the exact size of the planet. Using high-resolution images taken from the Mercury Surface, Space Environment, Geochemistry, and Ranging (MESSENGER) spacecraft, scientists were able to measure the size of the planet and determine that it is actually shrinking. This information will be useful in understanding the planet’s geological history and composition. It’s amazing what we can learn about our universe when we take the time to look!
