Maven's Mission to Mars Continues After 5 Years of Exploration
NASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) spacecraft has been successfully orbiting Mars since 2014 and has reached a significant milestone this month. After nearly seven years of gathering data, MAVEN has now entered a new status: extended mission. This means that the spacecraft, which was originally designed for a two-year mission, will continue to collect data over the next few years. The extended mission will provide scientists with valuable insight into the evolution of the Martian atmosphere and its effects on the planet’s climate. MAVEN’s data will also help us better understand the history of water on Mars and the effects of climate change on the red planet. With MAVEN’s extended mission, we are one step closer to understanding Mars and its evolution!
