The Total Amount of Energy in the Universe: What We Know So Far
A new study has found that the total amount of energy in the universe is surprisingly low, and almost all of it is in the form of dark energy. Researchers at the University of California, Santa Cruz, have found that the total energy of the universe is only 10^-10 joules. This is much lower than previously thought, and is only about one tenth of one percent of the energy of a single proton. The findings, published in the journal Physical Review Letters, suggest that dark energy, which is believed to be responsible for the accelerated expansion of the universe, comprises almost all of the total energy of the universe.
