Today, astronomers have released an exciting new image of the galaxy M84, taken by the Chandra X-Ray Observatory. M84 is an elliptical galaxy located in the Virgo cluster, approximately 50 million light years away from Earth. This hot and huge galaxy is the brightest source of X-rays in the Virgo cluster and one of the brightest sources of X-rays in the entire sky. The new Chandra image shows an incredible amount of detail, giving us a better understanding of the processes that occur in this galaxy. From this image, astronomers can see jets of high-energy particles, evidence of supermassive black holes, and a large amount of hot gas. This new image will help astronomers better understand the physical processes taking place within M84 and provide insight into the activity of other galaxies like it.
