In a major breakthrough, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has been used to detect the chemical composition of a newborn star for the first time. This discovery, made by a team of scientists from the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA, marks a major milestone in our understanding of how stars form and evolve. The team used the JWST’s Near Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec) instrument to observe the chemical composition of the star, which is located in the Orion Nebula, some 1,500 light years from Earth. The study found that the star contains a variety of elements, including oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and sulfur, as well as other elements such as magnesium and calcium. The scientists believe that their observations could provide insight into the star formation process and how elements are distributed across the universe.
