Exploring the Heart of an Asteroid: Introducing the HERA Mini-Radar Probe
Scientists have just announced a new mission: Hera, a mini-radar probe that will explore an asteroid known as Didymos. This mission is part of an ambitious plan to study the asteroid and better understand its structure and composition. Hera will be the first mission to use mini-radar to explore an asteroid, and will provide invaluable data about the asteroid’s “heart” - the interior structure beneath its surface. This mission could help pave the way for future asteroid exploration and even provide insight into how to better protect Earth from potentially hazardous asteroids. Excitingly, Hera is expected to launch in 2023.
