The Impact of Machine Learning on Maintaining Healthy Teeth
A machine that can detect the effect of tooth brushing on dental health could be just around the corner. Scientists at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) have developed a device that can measure the force of tooth brushing on the surface of teeth and gums, as well as the degree of tooth wear due to brushing. The device, dubbed the Healthy Teeth Machine, was designed to provide information to dentists and patients about the effectiveness of their brushing technique, as well as the potential for damage to their teeth. The machine is able to detect the force of tooth brushing in three different areas of the mouth: the front, back, and sides. It also measures the amount of tooth wear due to brushing. The device is expected to make it easier for dentists to give patients more accurate advice on how to brush their teeth properly to prevent dental decay and other problems.
