This study explored the concept of “transient eternal” equilibrium - a state of equilibrium that does not require a constant external force to maintain the balance of the system. To do this, the team used an “ramping protocol,” which involves gradually changing the parameters of the system so that the system is able to explore different local equilibria. Through this study, the researchers were able to explore the complex behavior of the system and gain a better understanding of how the system can be brought to equilibrium.
