Our Milky Way galaxy is about to experience something that has never happened before - a great galactic merger! Scientists have discovered that the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) will collide with the Milky Way in approximately 2 billion years. This will be a spectacular event that will cause a huge disturbance in our galaxy, and possibly even cause new stars to form.
