How Blended Communities are Becoming the Norm in 2023
For too long, communities across the country have been divided along racial and economic lines, with some areas flourishing while others remain deprived of resources and opportunities. However, a recent study has found that more communities than ever before are starting to break down these barriers and create a more integrated and equitable society. The study, conducted by the Urban Institute, found that in the past decade, the number of “blended” communities—those that are both economically diverse and racially integrated—has grown significantly. By 2023, it is estimated that one-third of all U.S. neighborhoods could qualify as blended communities.
This is a major breakthrough for social equality, as blended communities are more likely to benefit from a variety of resources, from better schools to improved public services. The study also found that communities with a high percentage of blended households were more likely to have higher incomes, lower crime rates, and less poverty.
This is a sign that our society is progressing in the right direction, and it is important that we continue to work together to create a more integrated and equitable future for all.
