Soil Microbes Prove Resilient to Climate Change
As the Earth’s climate continues to change, it’s no surprise that the organisms living on and within the planet are also affected. But a new study has found that soil microbes are surprisingly resilient when it comes to surviving climate change. Researchers from the University of California, Santa Cruz and the University of Texas, Austin, analyzed the genomes of soil microbes from three sites around the world and found that they had adapted to their changing environment. The results, published in Nature Communications, suggest that soil microbes may play an important role in helping ecosystems survive climate change.
