Boeing Facing Further Delays with Astronaut Capsule
Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner astronaut capsule has been delayed yet again, this time to 2023. The capsule, designed to carry US astronauts to the International Space Station, was originally scheduled for launch in 2017, but has been delayed numerous times due to technical problems. Boeing is now targeting the second half of 2023 for its first crewed mission. The capsule was tested in December 2019 but the mission failed to reach its intended orbit. Following the test, Boeing reviewed the software and hardware of the Starliner, and now believes it is ready for its first crewed mission. The delay of the capsule is yet another setback in the US space exploration program, which is working to reduce its dependence on Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
