A team of astronomers have discovered evidence of an unusual stellar evolution within a distant cluster of stars. The stars in question are known as blue stragglers and are believed to be the result of two stars merging together. This is an unprecedented finding as the merging of stars is not normally observed in such a dense cluster of stars. The researchers believe that the merging of stars is a result of the stars being too close together, leading them to collide and merge. This study provides an insight into the dynamics of dense stellar clusters and could lead to a better understanding of how stars evolve over time.
