Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology have allowed researchers to develop a new variety of wheat that is better suited for growing in diverse soil types. This AI-enhanced wheat is expected to significantly improve crop yields, as well as the health of the soil, ultimately leading to a more sustainable food supply.

In a study published in Nature Communications, researchers from the New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research have successfully used AI to develop a wheat variety that is able to withstand a variety of soil types and soil conditions. This is the first time AI has been used to specifically develop a crop to be more resilient to different soil types.

Because of the AI-enhanced wheat’s ability to adapt to various soil types, the researchers have found that it is able to grow in soils that are more acidic and have higher levels of salt than typical wheat varieties. This means that the wheat can grow in soils that are not typically suitable for crop production. As a result, farmers will be able to grow higher yields in areas that are traditionally more challenging to farm.
