Biogas is an incredibly useful source of renewable energy, and now, scientists have discovered a new way to increase its production. Researchers from the University of Copenhagen have identified a specific type of bacteria that is key to producing more biogas. The bacteria, Clostridium tyrobutyricum, is already found in many biogas plants, but its role in production had been largely overlooked until now. The scientists found that this type of bacteria is actually one of the most important components of biogas production. When Clostridium tyrobutyricum is present in a biogas plant, the amount of biogas produced increases by up to 30%. This means that by simply including this bacteria, biogas plants could become much more efficient and produce more energy.
