In a new study published in the journal Science, an international team of researchers has uncovered some of the mystery surrounding the migrations of Mexican people to California over the past 11 years. The team found that the surge in migration was largely driven by economic factors, including a desire to find better opportunities and the impact of climate change. By analyzing data on Mexican migration to the US, they were able to trace the paths of thousands of Mexican immigrants who have come to California since 2010. The team found that most of the migrants came from the states of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Michoacán, and that they were mainly seeking better employment opportunities, as well as the effects of climate change, which have caused drought and crop failure in these regions. The team’s findings suggest that the US should take steps to reduce poverty and inequality in Mexico in order to reduce the incentives for people to migrate to the US.
